Congregation Welcomes New Candidate

On Monday, October 13 we welcomed Matea Korsa as a Candidate for vowed commitment as a Sister of St. Joseph of Peace during a simple prayer ritual in the St. Michael Villa Chapel. Friends, family, and CSJP sisters and associates across the Congregation watched the prayer ritual via live stream. We were delighted that Sister Pat Wormann, OP, Delegate for Religious for the Archdiocese of Newark, was able to join us. Congregation Leader Sister Andrea Nenzel welcomed Matea as a Candidate on behalf of the Congregation.

During the ritual, Sister Andrea asked: “Matea, are you willing to join us as we strive to be a community for mission, acknowledging our interdependence with one another and our reliance on the love and fidelity of God to lead us into the way of peace?.” Matea answered: “Yes, I desire to live with you in community and grow in my commitment to the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace way of life and mission.”

Candidacy is the first step of initial formation. During candidacy, we offer opportunities to experience community living with us and provide guidance in prayer and assistance in discerning readiness to enter Novitiate. Sister Susan Francois will accompany Matea as Candidate Director. Matea and Sister Susan will attend the Hudson Valley Intercongregation Formation program with men and women in initial formation in various communities this year. Matea will live with the local community on Grand Street in Jersey City during her candidacy.

Matea is 25 years old and was born and raised in Ohio. She has journeyed with US Vocation Director Sister Chero Chuma this past year as she has discerned her vocation and desire to begin formation with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace. Matea brings a depth of experience as a religious education volunteer in her local parish and a strong desire to be of service. Please hold Matea in your prayers as she begins her initial formation journey with the Congregation.
