arie Claire Hospice
On Saturday, July 30, 2011, Sisters and Associates were special guests at a Barbeque, hosted by the Holy Name Medical Center Hospice program at the Villa Marie Claire in Saddle River, NJ. All present marveled at the wonderful new patio complete with an outdoor grill and beautifully landscaped area. The Holy Name Medical Center staff made everyone feel at home with their top-notch service and diligent attention. The food was out of this world!

Director of the Villa, Charles Vialotti MD, Medical Director of Villa Marie Claire, Board members of Holy Name Medical Center, and many staff members of Holy Name and the Villa were present. Many enlightening conversations between the guests and employees could be heard. We were pleased to learn that the 20 rooms at the Villa were fully occupied with women and men who are nearing the end of life and in need of inpatient hospice care.
The Villa is the first facility of its kind in Bergen County, New Jersey and the only one in the tri-state area to provide temporary lodging for family members in a nearby wing. The philosophy of the Villa is epitomized in the phrase “Living the Journey”. “As long as there is life, there is hope – and hope means different things to different people. We are all on a journey, and wherever an individual is on that journey, there is healing and comfort.” For more information, go to the Villa’s website.
Villa Marie Claire, located at 12 West Saddle River Road in Saddle River, New Jersey, has served as a residence for more than a century. It was first the home of Thomas and Marie Claire Mahoney. Built in 1928, Thomas, as a birthday gift to his wife Marie Claire, gave the 26 acres and the home to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace. Over the years, the Villa served as a home for girls, a working farm for orphan boys, a vacation house, a retreat house, a home for newly professed sisters, a residence for senior citizens, and a retirement home for senior sisters.
