Sister Ann Crawley sends an update on Haiti

Hello Coralie!
I have been kept very busy the past few months with our many patients suffering the dreadful effects of cholera. Thank God it is on the decline now and we have fewer patients these days. God knows it’s about time we had a breather as our poor people of Haiti are exhausted from the terrible effects of the many 2010 disasters. We pray all is behind us as we move forward in hope this second month of 2011. We are so much looking forward to improving the hospital and maternity facilities and transforming our present Nutrition Center into a "State of the Arts Nutrition Center" for our many children suffering from the dreadful effects of hunger and disease.
Doctor Harold Previl, the Chief Medical Officer at the hospital, has asked me to become actively involved in the Nutrition Center to insure that the physical, social and spiritual needs of the children and their families are met. Presently, I am working with the staff to evaluate the physical building and determine what changes could be made to provide a healthy and learning environment for the children and parents.
Many young children are showing up at the hospital suffering from malnutrition and in greater numbers since the outbreak of cholera.
Nutrition will be "my" special project over the next few years and please God all my energy shall be geared to helping these "The Little ones of Haiti". They are sad, underweight and lifeless as their little bodies are badly depleted of the vital nutrients needed for growth and development. Hopefully with the introduction of a good meal every day and added protein we shall see a marked improvement in their health and well-being.
At the moment we are caring for between twenty and thirty children with the numbers swelling every day. This morning we had over forty children to feed. Here's some pictures of children who have been attending the Nutrition Center for some time.
I thank God every day for health and strength which is a blessing. Greetings of peace to all our Sisters and Associates. Much love, Ann
