Peace through Justice
Like our Foundress, Mother Clare (Margaret Anna Cusack), we live out our charism of peace through justice by working to improve the lives of vulnerable women and children, the poor, marginalized and oppressed. We see the promotion of justice as integral to our mission and spirituality.
In addition to our individual ministries, as a Congregation we intentionally work towards that wholeness of life which effectively integrates the call to prayer with the call to justice.
We advocate for the common good and the fundamental human rights of all people as the beloved children of God.
We advocate for the care of creation —as our God-given global commons—and particularly responding to the crisis of climate change and global warming
Care of Creation & Climate Change
’Our history calls us to a special love of those who are poor.’ … Recognizing the interdependence of all life, we count among those who are poor all Earth’s creatures whose lives are threatened or diminished. We experience our call to live our stance of contemplative, nonviolent peacemaking in regard to creation. It is faithfulness to this charism in our own time that compels us to respond to the crisis of climate change/global warming. ~Acts of the 21st General Chapter, Constitution 21
As a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) at the United Nations, we support the UN’s work, particularly achievement of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.

In a world of fragile peace and widespread injustice, our CSJP Constitutions are the foundation and inspiration for our CSJP work towards global peace and justice.
Read some stories of Sisters & Associates acting for peace through justice.
"In accord with our tradition we commit ourselves to promote peace in family life, in the church, and in society. We strive to respect the dignity of all persons, to value the gifts of creation, and to confront oppressive situations. We respond to God’s people in need and promote social justice as a way to peace." (Constitution 11) |
"Our charism of peace challenges us to prophetic risk so that God’s reign might be more fully realized. Confident of God's faithful love and collaborating with others who work for justice and peace, we face the future with gratitude and hope." (Constitution 12) |
