Seeds of Peace - Care of Creation and Climate Change
Carbon Footprint 101
In our Seeds of Peace Chapter Act, we commit ourselves personally and communally to:
- identify and reduce our carbon footprint in our communities, ministries and institutions and
- pray, study and act to promote a sustainable lifestyle.
Sisters and Associates are meeting this spring to learn how to identify and reduce our carbon footprints. This is in response to our Seeds of Peace Chapter Act on Care of Creation & Climate Change. We invite you to use the resources below to identify and reduce your carbon footprint.

What one action could you commit to today to reduce your carbon footprint?
Below are some answers to this question from individual Sisters and Associates of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace:
- becoming more aware of our use/abuse of utilities (lights, heat, electricity, etc.)
- incorporating into our lifestyle an increase use of carpooling, regular use of public transportation and walking (for the HEALTH of it!)
- planning, on a regular basis, a meatless or vegetarian meal
- drive less/make one trip for several needs
- Remember to use cloth shopping bags
- Use cloth instead of paper towels
- Unplug when not using power items
- Walk to the grocery store (might mean more trips to carry purchases)
- Cut down on take out foods
- Organize trips before we get in a car
- Eat locally
- grow some of our food
- Use less meat and animal products
- If possible use public transportation
