Join Us - About Vowed Commitment

Our vows, rooted in our baptismal consecration, express our response to God’s call to participate in the mission of Jesus Christ. Through vowed membership in the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace and as women of the Church, we specify the direction in which we live our baptismal commitment. (Constitution 38)

Celibacy: Our way of loving and being loved calls us to non-possessive, life-giving relationships with openness toward all our sisters and brothers. (Constitution 44)

Poverty: By our vow of evangelical poverty we commit ourselves to follow Jesus who became poor for our sake. With reverence for the blessings of creation, we use our resources, both individually and collectively, in a spirit of stewardship and simplicity. The spirit of poverty also calls us to work for a more just society so that all may be enriched by more equitable sharing in the goods of the Earth. (Constitutions 49 and 56)

Obedience: The spirit of obedience requires that Individually and together we search actively to know God’s call to us as revealed through scripture, the people and events of our world, the concerns of the church, and our charism of peace. (Constitution 58)
